    Celebration for Trafalgar night
  • 21 October 2005 - Farnham Parish Church

The Tilford Bach Society joins with St Andrew’s Church in Farnham to celebrate the Trafalgar Night 200th Anniversary with a rousing performance of Haydn’s Nelson Mass. Haydn’s title for the mass is Missa in Angustiis (Mass in Times of Distress) and though composed before Trafalgar, at around the time of the Battle of the Nile, after Nelson’s great victory on October 21st,1805, it soon became known as the Nelson Mass. Haydn and Nelson became friends and some accounts say that Nelson gave Haydn a gold watch he had won at Aboukir Bay, in return for the pen that was used to compose a cantata for Lady Hamilton.

Directed by the Society’s Musical Director, Laurence Cummings (who recently conducted Giulio Cesare at Glyndebounre Festival Opera and will shortly conduct Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the English National Opera), an international team of soloists is led by Ana-Maria Rincon, a specialist in baroque and classical repertoire.

    Tilford Bach Society Members' evening
  • 22 October 2004 - Farnham Castle

Pegasus was invited to entertain members of Tilford Bach Society at a special evening concert. The concert was warmly received and the following review was written: 'The London-based choir Pegasus took its audience on a magical flight through four hundred years of unaccompanied song at Tilford Bach Society's latest Members' Evening at Farnham Castle. Under their conductor Matthew Altham, Pegasus amply demonstrated why they have become one of the most prestigious chamber choirs in the country, selected as one of the six semi-finalists of the BBC Choir of the Year 2005. Their varied programme included a rumbustious folk song, a madrigal about a presumptuous gnat and hair-raising dissonance in a Finnish song about a scream, as well as lyrical pieces that revealed the beautiful homogeneous timbre of the choir, such as Stanford's exquisite song, "The Blue Bird" and Francis Grier's "The Voice of my Beloved".
